Summary of requirements for Safe Places and Working With Children

'Local Church Safe Places Implementation'

  • Local Church Safe Places Coordinator position
    • The Church Board must create and approve a Local Church Safe Places Coordinator (LCSPC) position and appoint a person to that position
  • Board meeting agendas to include "safe places"
    • Safe Places & working with children item must be on Leadership Team / Business / Board Meeting agenda.
  • Child Safe Environments Policy
  • All current (or new) Board members must have read and accepted the Local Church Child Safe Environments Policy on behalf of the church
    • The Child Safe Environments Policy can be found on the AUC Safe Paces website: http://safeplaceservices.org.au/resources/local-church-policy 
    • The board must confirm the date of acceptance of the policy in its board meetings minutes and advise the Seventh-day Adventist Church (Victoria Conference) of such.
    • The Child Safe Environments Policy will be updated biannually
  • Obtain obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC).
    • Any person in a leadership role – anyone that was nominated including deacons, audio visual leaders, elders, secretaries etc must obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC).
    • The Local Church Safe Places Coordinator and the Church Clerk will record WWCC numbers to the Membership Database for up-to-date records at the Conference office. 
  • Safe Church Awareness Workshops (SCAW)
    • All leaders and elders, especially those working with children must attend a Safe Church Awareness Workshop (SCAW).

  • ALL staff and volunteers who work with children and young people are required to complete a pledge (or otherwise acknowledge) their indication that they understand and agree to abide by the church’s Code of Conduct.
  • The Church Board to acknowledge it and advise Safe Places that this has been done. 
  • Maintain current records
    • Maintain a database of Names, Contact details and WWC numbers of all volunteers who work with children and young people.
    • “Staff and Volunteer Data Forms” are available at http://safeplaceservices.org.au/resources/
  • Board approval of events involving children
    • Ensure all church events, Sabbath School, Pathfinder and Adventurer programs are passed by the Board.
    • The Youth Department and the AUC website will be helpful in assisting with the necessary forms that need to be completed and presented to the Board for approval.
